Part 3: A crimson dress for the bride

Chapter 12: And so, with nowhere to escape to, she fell in love

Two days had passed since I turned Ainelinne into a Demi-Vamp.

I was waiting for Relie to come to the chapel, which was tinted in twilight by the setting sun.

I didn't remember making any plan to meet with her. 

But I was sure of it.

With Ai having persuaded her mother to allow Relie to marry into their family, it shouldn't be long before Ai came to the church to share her joy with me.

I looked up at the statue of the Goddess, and smiled.

An outsider to the church would probably be wondering what I could be feeling. 

To say that everything was going smoothly would be an understatement. Had the Goddess given her blessing to us?

Or was she lamenting her powerlessness to do anything about it?

However, I had no intention to pray.

I am not doubting the existence of God, though.

Normally, today should have been another day of patience. However, it would have been impolite not to touch her, when she was looking so vulnerable in front of me.

Yes-- if it was done under the cover of close friendship, then there shouldn't be a problem with a snack.

Besides, now, perhaps Relie wouldn't be able to refuse.

When I put my hands on her shoulders, she called my name with a trembling voice.

 At the sound of Milly's voice, I realized that Dick was calling me over.

He was surrounded by noble old men, who seemed to want to be introduced to me.

Milly waved me off with a smile, and I headed toward Dick.

Dick's flesh and Dick's blood especially clung to me, who had been by his side.

A moment of silence filled the hall-- and then, all at once, cries of anguish exploded all over the venue.

In the party hall, which had turned into a true hell on earth, no one seemed willing to help me, and no one approached me as I repeatedly collapsed and threw up.

Dick had died.

Even though we were supposed to get married, even though I was supposed to be happy. Dick had died.

In one second, I had fallen from the peak of happiness to the abyss of misery.

Was there even one person who would help me--?

At that moment, the face of a certain person popped into my mind.

"Chigusa..... help me...... Chigusaaa....."

 

My heart broken, I earnestly asked her for help. 

Now that I had lost Dick, now-- she was the only one left.
